Competition Rules

Eligibility

Any member in good standing may compete.

All images, prints and Digital Images (DPI), submitted for competition must be the work of the member submitting them.

Images submitted during a calendar year are eligible to be entered into the year-end competition

Any image may only be entered once.

Images which have received awards or honors are not eligible to be entered for competition in later years.


Monthly Competition

Each member may submit up to 2 images in each of the four divisions:

 color print

 monochrome print

 color DPI

 monochrome DPI

In addition, each member may submit up to 2 print images and up to 2 digital images for the monthly assignment competition. The entries may be either color or monochrome or one of each.


Year-End Competition

 Each member may submit up to three images in each of the above categories for Image of the Year competition at year end. Only images submitted for judging during the same year are eligible.

A trophy for “Best of Show” will be awarded to the image selected from the 1st place winners of each of the above Divisions.

The William Lacey trophy will be awarded for most overall cumulative points using the totals for each division above.


Preparation and Submission of Digital Images

Digital images must be in JPEG (.jpg) format.

Use the sRGB color profile where possible for best results during projection.

Image size must be 72 dpi with the longest side no more than 1024 pixels. If it is a Portrait format the height should be no more than 1024. If it is a Landscape format the width should be no more than 1024.

The file name of each image must include the following: first 4 letters of your last name, underscore, first letter of your first name, underscore, and the image title. Nothing else should be in the file name (i.e. copy, #2, *, etc.). 

Example smit_b_The Time is Now.jpg. The deadline for submission is the Friday before competition day.

Entries should be emailed to chascodigital@me.com.

In the subject line of the email type the division (color, mono, or assignment). Please do not additional words in the subject line.

In the body of the email include your first and last name and the image title.

2 images may be attached to a single email for as long as they are for the same division (i.e. color, mono or assignment).


Preparation and Submission of Print Images

Prints must be securely mounted and should be no smaller than 8x10 inches with the mat board no larger than 16x20 inches.

Print title should be no more than 6 words.

Labels are provided by the Club and should be placed on the back of the mat board in the upper left hand corner.

Prints are submitted on the day of the competition at least 15 minutes before the meeting start time.


Judging and Awards

Images are judged and scored based on impact and artistic merit as well technical qualities.

A picture of the month will be selected from the assignment photos submitted. One winner will be selected for Print and one winner for digital. The winning images will be featured on the Club Web Site for the next month.

The results of monthly competition will be posted on the Club Web Site, with scores of 24 or higher designated as “Awards”, and scores of 21 through 23, being designated as “Honors”.

An awards ceremony will be held annually.

1st 2nd and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded for the best images for each division.

1st 2nd and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded for the most cumulative points for each division listed below. The best 12 scores during monthly competition will be used to determine the winners for each of the following divisions:
